CHINESE VISA OVERVIEW

TYPES OF VISAS

Tourist Visa: ( L visa) issued to travelers who enter China for tourism, sightseeing, family visiting, or other personal purposes.


Business Visa: (F visa) issued to foreigners who are invited to China for business visit, research, attend business lecture and convention, or culture exchanges, short-term studies or intern practice for a period of no more than six months.

Student Visa (X visa) issued to foreigners who enter China for study, advanced studies or intern practice for a period of more than six months. For a period of no more than six months, business visa (type F) will be granted.
Applicants who will study in China for more than six months shall also provide a Physical Examination Certificate for Foreign Citizen. Any person suffering from a mental disorder, leprosy, AIDS, venereal diseases, contagious tuberculosis or other such infectious diseases shall not be permitted to enter China.

Work Visa (Z visa) issued to foreigners who enter China for a post or employment, and their accompanying family members. ( Z ) visa is valid for one entry, three months. The holder of a (Z) visa shall go through residential formalities in the local public security department within thirty days of entry into China.

VALIDITY OF VISA

A single-entry Chinese visa is usually valid for 3 months with 30 days of duration of stay. You may enter China on any day within 3 months and continue to stay for another 30 days. A double entry visa is valid for 6 months from date of issuance.

LENGTH OF STAY

A regular tourist or business Chinese visa normally permits holders to stay in China for 30 days. However, duration of stay for 60 or 90 days are also available on request. If you need to stay in China for more than 30 days, please specify that in your application form. The consulate has exclusive rights to decide how many days you are allowed to stay in China regardless of your request. Once you enter China, you may go to a local public security bureau for visa extension.

CONSULAR JURISDICTION

The Chinese Consulate in San Francisco only accepts visa application of residents of Northern California, Nevada, Alaska, Oregon and Washington State.
